It was so great to start up Metamorphosis ( I defy you to call it anything else... lol) again this Tuesday. I loved seeing everybody back for school and back on school schedule and all that... really I just love school. Happens to be where I am right now.

To all you who didn't make it out last night, you missed some pretty awesome abstract art... and a few unthinkable stats about... creation. And you missed Louie Giglio. Not that I'm a big name person anyway, but it was a really good message we'll all need to hear a few more times in the future. So come and check it out next Tuesday. You know where to go.

Hey all, So I promised a long time ago that I would do pics of everyone in the youth group (which drove steph lang absolutely crazy with impatientness!) and a year later I have 3 done! WOW new record! Lol. I started a lot of them but then they got lost... like at galilean... oh well.

ANYWAYS, as we all know Ariel The Great is in mexico right now and is doing some awesome work through the Lord. So I did a drawing of her. Now this is another paintball based picture so girls, be patient. I'll eventually do a full faced picture of someone.

This picture is probably close to 10 hours of work. I wasn't keeping track of how long I was working on it, all I know is I worked on it a lot at Jeremy's (got there at 2:00pm) and when I got home I worked on it til 1:00 am. So I'm guessing roughly 10 hours of work.

To Ariel, I hope you like this. Thanks for being such a great paintball model lol.

Long Time No Blog

Yo

Well, since I check this blog all the time, and nothing's changed since Erin left (hey, is that a sign?), I decided I would post... In the wise words of Melissa, "Be the change you want to see in the world." Right?

So, small groups are (officially) over, and (nonofficially) starting again. I have to say that I'm really excited about having them continue through the summer. I think this will be a great chance for those of us who aren't leaving to keep building together, and to pray for those who are leaving. So this is a shout-out to Mark and Kristin and Katrina for leading/hosting Small Groups for the summer. Vive la Metamorphosis!

Guess what! Today I wrote my last (ok, my only) exam... and it was killer. Biology (Prest's-- if you went to Lasalle you know what I'm talking about) 2.5 hours. 50 multiple choice. 2 essays. 13 pages of foolscap. Man, it almost sounds like a reality TV show. Anyway, all this to say that... I'm done! And I know I speak for all the grads when I say it is a relief, but also a little scary. Where do we go from here? The Father knows; he will keep us.

Hello GPSers and College and Career
Some of you may have noticed that you haven't noticed me around. Well sad but true I am not in Sudbury for the summer. I am home in the sault and liking it very much. Although I miss you guys alot.

Life is going great here. Yes I know you all wanna know...Jason is great and we are doing awesome...you can check out my blog, I finally update it so check it out.

I am still looking for a job here and Jason has applied for a tech support job at the hospital, we would love it if you guys would pray for those.

Ok this is a completely random blog but I love you guys and I miss you! Be good or the next time I am in Suds I will be you severely!

Is God Vain?

In the College and Career bible study, as part of the awesome Metamorphosis night, we're doing a sweet John Piper video series entitled 'The Blazing Center: The Soul-Satisfying Supremacy of God in All Things.

We just finished the second session where Piper tackles the question: Is God Vain? More pointedly: How can a God who is passionately pursuing his own glory be loving? And secondly, why would anyone want to worship a God so into himself?

In John 11 we see that God's pursuit of his own glory, and his love for us go hand in hand. It says in this passage that Jesus loved Lazarus, Mary and Martha so he stayed two more days and let Lazarus die. Now, does that make sense? If Jesus loved Lazarus, why wouldn't he rush to his side right away? Well, it was more loving to show them God's glory than to keep Lazarus alive. God knows that that which will satisfy our souls most deeply is Himself in all His glory. He knows that he is the most valuable and satisfying reality in the entire universe. He knows that during moments of adoration and self forgetfulness we are at our most joyous, and that when we are lost in admiration of Him, lost in worship of Him we are most satisfied.

God's love doesn't make much of us, as we often do to our objects of love, rather he frees us, at the price of His son's life, to enjoy making much of Him. Think of it this way; God's best expression of love is himself - there is nothing greater in the universe. If he were to hide himself from us, that would mean he hated us. But he doesn't do that! Out of love for us, he fully shows Himself in all His glory. Again, he is the most valuable and satifsying reality in the entire universe. We were not made for mirrors, we were made for standing in front of what is infinitely beautiful - namely God. In pursuing the display and exaltation of His own glory, He is pursuing the very thing that will make us most happy - himself!

Given this we should be doing whatever we can to show people that which will satisfy them forever - God. If this isn't our life's goal, then we're not very loving people!

So I guess we found out what it's really like to be hungry... or did we? Now there's a thought to ponder... We found out what it's like to be hungry, but not what it's like to have hungry as your lifestyle.

Still, all in all, the 30 Hour Famine was a pretty sweet night. We had some heartfelt worship (I felt it... did YOU feel it???), and a good speaker, and some sweet bonding time with GPSers... funny how you get close to people when you are all exhausted, hungry, grumpy, anxious to go home AND have bad hair. Lol Yes, good times had by all.
And for all you non-faminers, what can I say but your loss! I know some of you wanted to be there, and for good reason! Hope you get a chance to do it next year (or this year if you want to help Allie out in May!).

Kristin and I talked about putting some art work up on the blogging site and throughout the GPS website.

Here is my most recent piece of a person from GPS. This is a drawing of Nathan that I did from a photo I took of him. Girls you may not be so interested in this picture, but something you may like more is comming up soon.

I know I promised a picture of everyone a very long time ago, but its been hard trying to figure out time to spend on them. Most of the pictures that I have done I've worked on during class time and therefore were projects. I have started making a picture of ALL the GPS girl (regulars).

After a little break from Small Groups, I got to go back on Tuesday, and it was great! Let me tell you... that song (you know the one... "you don't really know what you have until you just don't have it anymore" ahahahahahhaha) had it right-- really, the song: "you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone." So true! I'll sing it for you sometime. Anyway, in not so many words (call me Polonius, and you can be Gertrude-- "more matter, with less art), this is just to say that I learned what phileo can mean... I love you guys; thanks for being amazing! And Small Groups truly is a blessed institution.

Ready to Die (not what you think)

You know, I was just thinking the same thing... BLOGGER SLACKERS! Alas, I am one of them :) I guess I'll have to do something about my hypocritical tendencies.

Alright, so here's a little poem I wrote on the way back from Galilean. Remember the big snow storm (when we couldn't see the road...), and Disco Dave about to conk out (ok maybe I am exaggerating a little)... well, I was thinking about dying. It sounds kind of morbid, but from the point of view of this Christ-follower, it's actually a celebration! Like Paul said to the Philippians, "I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far..." (Phil. 1:23) Not saying I want to die necessarily, but that the greatest freedom comes in living with the perspective that you are ready to die. Praises be to Jesus Christ; only he can give this freedom!

Awesome Weekend at Galilean

We had an awesome time at the Winter Teen Retreat at Galilean. The speaker was good, the devotions were good, the games were good...it was all 'n all a good time. It's always refreshing to spend time in a nice setting, looking into God's living and active Word with fellow believers of the same age.

Hey punks. So sad that we couldn't get together last night due to the beautiful weather! It sucks missing Tuesdays. Hey Guys,

So, it's my first time blogging, and I hope it works cause I went through a bunch of stuff to get here. Anyways, Christmas and New Years were both good, and I hope they were for everyone else too! As some of you may or may not know, I plan on going to Mexico for the month of July for a missionary internship. It's worth a college credit so that's exciting but there's alot of stuff that needs to happen. There's a crap load of paper work and applications. and then the funds. Im not worried about wether or not I'll be accepted into the internship, the guy running it really wants me to go so praise God that I dont really have to stress about that. Ive spoken with Pastor Jack about the funds but only briefly because I can't go over details about the trip that I dont have yet... imagine that! So, please pray that everything goes smoothly. Im not really liking the thought of going there on my own, but I definitely feel God calling me there so yeah, just pray. I know that everything will work out how it should, but no one really likes not knowing for sure. Bye

HEy!! Tis I, the Melissa! So...is it just me or does it feel weird that you're not at church on Tuesday night? Ya, ya it does. WEll, I miss it!

Alrighty, I hope everyone, especially the ladies who participate in the C&C bible study, have a super duper CHRISTmas filled with lotsa family, friends, and foodies....but above all, I hope we can get right into the meaning of Christmas and show the love of God to eveyone around us. For what is love, but that God has given us his one and only son. Saweeeeeeet!

More on Worship

It is hugely encouraging to hear that people enjoyed worship last Tuesday and that it was able to help them worship our great God... I can tell you, as part of the worship team (the player of the celebrated sax-um-mu-phone... yay Selmer!!! <--- that's his name) it was definitely a learning experience for me.

It was interesting to play with people I've never played with (much less, even met) before, and to be playing in a different key than everyone else, and having no idea what E minor chords translate into for Bflat instruments (all you band geeks out there know what I'm talking about...), but nonetheless it really worked out well. I was definitely challenged with my musical technical ability, as well as spiritually.

It made me realize all the more that it is the heart behind our worship that really matters... even if we are out of key and out of tune and out of time, if our hearts are focussed on God and we are there to show that we love Him and want to celebrate Him, He is pleased. And I say, Amen to that!!!!

ps. Interesting coincidence that this week's study was about gifts and talents and how we should use them for God's glory... I must (from experience now) that the most satisfying use of those talents is when they are given up to Him. Try it out sometime; you'll see what I mean

It is so encouraging to me to have worship like we had last night. It reminded me of the passage in revelation that talks about how worship will be when we are in heaven. Sweetness. God rocks!

"Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying:
"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."

Awesome Tuesday Worship

Zao,

I want to say how awesome I thought worship was last night! We had a huge band that even included a saxuhmuhphone, and it rocked!

Singing songs to the glory of our Father in heaven is a great way for us to show the love we have for him, and how we are in awe of Him. If you read the Psalms, you'll see how much emphasis David and the other psalmists put on singing and worshiping our awesome God.

Singing has always been something that I've really enjoyed. It really brings me into His presence, and last night was a fantastic time for that. I really appreciated those who played an instrument and sang up front for us, but I enjoyed hearing all the voices singing around me, too.

Blogs are GREAT procrastination tool but I too would like to give a big pat on the back to Kevo for his great leading and singing. Well done my spikey haired friend!
I also agree with Margaret. I was loving the voices around me tuesday night. I remember thinking its going to be so awesome in Heaven listening to all those believers praising God at the same time...seriously how cool is that. God definitely has a purpose for us meeting together with other believers. So that being said we'll see y'all on tuesday.

Sing A Simple Song of Love

I think I speak for most of us when I say that the worship time is possibly the most powerful part of Small Groups. I know in our girls' group there were a few of us that learned some great lessons even just from listening to the others sing last Tuesday. And I am one of them. Listening to those around me really helped me to clear all the other junk out of my head that was pushing for priority-- school, friends, future plans-- and really come to realize again and focus on how awesome our God is. So thanks, guys, for being so faithful and not being afraid to stand up and really worship the One that you love. You have blessed Him, and you have blessed me. I am so proud to have you guys as my brothers and sisters! Keep singing!

Givin' props to Kevin

Ni hao,

First off, I want to give a shout of thanks out to Kevin. Last night at Metamorphosis Kev took more of a leading role on the guitar, and he's only been playing guitar for a couple months. So, it's pretty awesome to see that he's allowing God to use him in a 'stretching' (Margaret's words) way. Also, Kev shared a prayer request last night. He needs a new job that will be more of a steady thing. If everyone could pray to that end, that'd be fantastic.

I'd also like to thank Gary for taking time out of a super busy schedule to help us out the past couple of Tuesdays. It's awesome to see people that are so willing to help out.

Hey all, Marge here!
First off, I've got to say that I think the Metamorphosis blog is a totally awesome idea. Not only is it fun now, but we will get to look back and see a great record of all God has been doing. So whoever was the mastermind behind it... you are a genius!
So last Tuesday has got to be one of the best times we've had, thanks in a large part to our five newbies who decidedto drop in and give us a challenge. Although it was marginally trying to be out of our comfort zones and the atmosphere we're used to, it was a really great opportunity to practise reaching out. I must say, I went home exhausted, but all the more grateful to God for the opportunity and the definite answer to prayer he gave that night... and who knows what seeds have been planted? Our God is awesome, and I can't wait for more opportunities to be stretched by Him1

Answered Prayer

Hola,

I'm really hoping that you guys will invite your friends out to youth group on Fridays, and Metamorphosis on Tuesdays. I have been praying recently that some new people would come out.

As it turned out, God answered my prayers very quickly. Five girls from Place Hurtubise came out last night. I was surprised when they actually stayed for the whole thing. Unfortunately, they're too young to keep coming out. Matt and Emma have their names and numbers, and hopefully we'll see them out at Gateway.

There was also a new girl in the college and career group -- another answer to my prayers. She goes to Cambrian College, and attends the Brethren church down on Lansing. Hopefully, she'll continue coming out.

On a related note. Two guys from St. Charles came into the church off the street today. They wanted to get out of the rain, and needed to use the phone. We talked a little bit about the church, and I told them about Friday night youth group and Metamorphosis. One of the guys seemed a little interested. Their names were Rob and Andrew. Pray that they might come out.
